Checklist: List Books via Amazon (FBM – Spreadsheet Upload)
Below is a clear, repeatable checklist you can use to list new books via Amazon FBM using a spreadsheet.
Step 1: Prepare Your Book List
- Collect book details in a spreadsheet:
- Title, Author
- 13-digit ISBN (essential)
- Price (retail or desired sale price)
- Stock quantity
- Optional: SKU (internal code) – can use ISBN if none
Step 2: Create Amazon Upload Sheet
Use these required fields:
Column Name |
Value / Source |
product-id | ISBN (13-digit) |
product-id-type | 3 (tells Amazon it's an ISBN-13) |
price | Your selling price |
quantity | Number of units available |
condition-type | new_new |
item-condition | 11 (Amazon's code for "New") |
fulfillment-center-id | Leave blank for FBM |
leadtime-to-ship | Usually 2 (ship within 2 business days) |
add-delete | "a" (to add this product) |
seller-sku | Your own code – use SKU or ISBN |
- Build this in Excel/Google Sheets (or ask an AI assistant to generate it).
- Save as .txt (tab-delimited) or .xls file when ready to upload.
Step 3: Upload to Amazon Seller Central
- Log in to sellercentral.amazon.com
- Go to: Inventory > Add Products via Upload
- Choose: "Inventory File" tab
- Select Book category template if needed
- Upload your completed file
After Upload
- Check for upload status or errors under: Inventory > Add Products via Upload > Monitor Upload Status
- Listings typically go live within minutes to a few hours
- Confirm appearance on Amazon product page
- Watch for orders under Orders > Manage Orders
Pro Tips
- Always use clean, 13-digit ISBNs with no spaces or dashes.
- SKU is just for your reference – keep it consistent.
- You can batch-scan ISBNs using iPhone Notes + Live Text or a barcode scanner app.
