Privacy Policy
Last updated: 1 August 2026
This Policy explains what personal information Shut Hub (operated by Industrial Hypertext) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We are committed to handling personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
1. What we collect
From contractors:
- Email address and a hashed password.
- Optional profile: display name, bio, location, work preference, preferred city/country, work rights status.
- Optional qualifications: tertiary qualification flag, level, title, field of study, institution.
- Tickets and trades with self-rated years of experience.
- Application cover notes submitted to companies.
- Optional equity-participation fields (gender; Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status). These are entirely opt-in self-attestation — leave them blank to skip. They are never displayed on your public profile and will only be surfaced to mining companies in the future as part of a participation program you explicitly opt into. You can change or clear them at any time from your dashboard.
From company admins:
- Email address and a hashed password.
- Company name and region.
- Shutdown postings, task breakdowns, required tickets, and equipment.
- Application review decisions and notes.
Automatically collected:
- IP address (for rate-limit and abuse-prevention purposes only).
- Login session identifiers.
- Email send logs (to confirm whether an email was queued, never the content of replies).
2. How we use it
- To create and operate your account, including email verification and password reset.
- To match contractors to shutdowns and show match scores.
- To deliver applications to companies and notify contractors of status changes.
- To moderate postings and applications before they go live (admin review).
- To send service emails: verification, password reset, application updates, team invites, and admin notifications about platform activity.
- To prevent abuse, fraud, and spam.
3. Who we share it with
- Companies you apply to. When you apply for a shut, the company admin sees your display name, email, application cover note, and (where applicable) match score against their required tickets.
- Other contractors on your team. Company admins on the same company can see shutdowns and applicants for their company.
- Industrial Hypertext admin. Receives notifications of platform activity for moderation and support.
- No third-party advertisers or data brokers. We do not sell or rent personal information.
4. Where it lives
Shut Hub data is stored in a SQLite database hosted by Industrial Hypertext on DreamHost infrastructure in the United States. Emails are sent via standard PHP mail with the From and Reply-To addresses on the industrialhypertext.com domain.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion at any time by emailing lockster@gmail.com. We may retain non-identifying logs for security and audit purposes.
6. Your rights
- Access. You can see your stored data on your dashboard. Contact us for anything held outside the dashboard.
- Correction. You can update most fields directly. For company name changes, ask your team owner or contact us.
- Deletion. Request account deletion by email. We will delete your profile, skills, applications, and messages within 30 days. Anonymised activity records may be retained.
- Complaints. If you believe we've mishandled your data, contact us first. You can also lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
7. Security
Passwords are stored using bcrypt hashing. Sessions are regenerated on login. POST forms are CSRF-protected. Authentication endpoints are IP rate-limited. The SQLite database is denied direct download via .htaccess. We do not consider these measures perfect; if you suspect a security issue please contact us.
8. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be flagged on the homepage or by email to active users.
9. Contact
